Freedom of Information
Fiona Killen - Partner and Head of Parliamentary and Public Law unit
Lorraine Balfour - Senior Solicitor

Freedom of information legislation has had a significant impact on the way public bodies manage information and has promoted a culture of openness and transparency.
We specialise in freedom of information law. Fiona Killen leads the team appointed to advise the Scottish Information Commissioner, who has responsibility for promoting and enforcing freedom of information in Scotland.
We have considerable experience over a number of years of advising applicants seeking information and also public bodies on compliance with freedom of information legislation.
We have acted for the Scottish Information Commissioner and for appellants in statutory appeals to the Inner House of the Court of Session under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
We are able to advise on the sometimes complex relationships between freedom of information and data protection law.
We regularly provide tailored training to public bodies on freedom of information to ensure those bodies are able to comply with statutory duties in an efficient and effective manner.
