In an age where large volumes of information are held by many organisations, information is a commodity and it can be transferred at the touch of a button. It is crucial that organisations are well aware of the complex regulatory framework governing the protection of certain types of information.
Our Parliamentary and Public Law unit has extensive knowledge and experience of advising both public and private sector clients on a wide range of data protection issues. We can:
- help you to understand your legal obligations in relation to the information you hold,
- provide advice on how to register as a data controller in terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 and whether existing registration reflects the nature of your operational requirements, and
- assist in drafting data protection policies and disclaimers.
We also have experience of providing training on data protection laws and their interaction with disclosure rules and freedom of information.
