Equestrian Law

As an adjunct to our Land Resources work we have a number of experienced horse riders in the firm and through that hands-on knowledge have a team who are able to give advice on all aspects of equestrian law.

Throughout Scotland there are many people gaining great enjoyment out of ownership of and riding or driving horses and ponies.  Overall equestrianism is a large industry in Scotland whether for pleasure alone or for competition riding.

In addition to purchase or sale of equestrian properties, we can advise on all aspects of ownership, transport and use of the horse to include buying and selling and disputes that may arise from such a process.

We also have experience of preparing horse owning partnership agreements (racing and eventing, for example) and have advised livery yards on various aspects of their business.

As a result of the drive to try and make horse riding safer, the reform of the laws of access in Scotland give more opportunity for off-road riding and we are able to assist with access queries and interpretation of the new legislation.

We are the British Horse Society’s appointed solicitors in Scotland and have contributed to their leaflets on Access shown on their website, see links below.
