Chambers and Partners 2009
Our Professional Discipline and Regulatory Law Group acts for a broad range of bodies in the professional, health care, social care, parliamentary, financial and sporting areas.
Increased media and public scrutiny of the professions and sporting bodies has put this sector firmly in the spotlight, with protection of the public one of the key themes. We use our significant expertise to advise and guide clients through the expansion and development of the law in this area, this includes providing robust advice on the regulatory and statutory frameworks which govern these bodies and on issues such as misconduct, challenges to decisions and appeals.
We represent our clients at hearings, tribunals, arbitrations and in court. We are at the forefront of legal developments, successfully representing clients in significant cases which are contributing to a body of decisions and principles. We also draft and revise registration, conduct and appeal rules for disciplinary hearings and advise on registration.
The clients we act for in the field of professional discipline and regulation include the Accountancy and Actuarial Discipline Board, Amateur Boxing Scotland, General Dental Council, General Medical Council, Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland (ICAS), Judo Scotland, Law Society of Scotland, National Clinical Assessment Service, Police Complaints Commissioner for Scotland, Royal College of Nursing, Scottish Gymnastics, Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, Scottish Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, Scottish Rowing and Scottish Rugby.
We were the only wholly Scottish based law firm to achieve a ranking in the ‘Professional Discipline – Best of the UK’ in the Chambers & Partners legal directory in 2009. We are also members of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers.
