'Tax & You' - year end tax alert 2009/10

The remaining weeks before the end of the tax year provide the ideal opportunity for taking any tax savings step and this year is no different.
Against a backdrop of an economy struggling to recover, a general election just around the corner and before that, Alistair Darling’s 2010 budget, the tax landscape could see significant change. Indeed, Mr Darling is on record as saying that this year’s budget would “cement fair tax rises, with the biggest burden falling on those who can most afford it”. This clearly raises fears that the Chancellor may impose further measures on the wealthy.
Remember that with Easter falling early this year, the effective deadline for taking any action is 1 April.
