Anderson Strathern advises on new Glasgow School of Art Building

Anderson Strathern has been advising Glasgow School of Art on the procurement of a new 11,000 square metre facility opposite the Mackintosh Building.
The contract was recently awarded to Sir Robert McAlpine to construct the building under the terms of a contract marrying key aspects of contractor design to GSA’s aesthetic and operational requirements. Meeting these needs required a collaborative approach to the drafting of contracts and was supported by the Scottish Funding Council and their advisers (Gardiner & Theobald).
The team was led by GSA’s Director of Estates Development, David Miller, and project managers, Turner Townsend. The redevelopment and construction of a new building designed by Steven Holl Architects (New York) and supported by JM Architects in Glasgow is now underway.
Keith Bishop who led Anderson Strathern’s team commented “We are delighted to have worked alongside GSA and Turner Townsend to procure this exciting new building which is of major significance to Glasgow. Working as a team we were delighted to be able to bring together the skills of everyone concerned to provide for the School, and the city, a truly impressive building which we all believe has the wow factor.”
GSA Director of Estates Development, David Miller, commented “Our relationship with Anderson Strathern has been productive and professional throughout with all parties benefiting greatly from the specialist knowledge from their team being available to guide us through this complex and exciting project."
