Anderson Strathern advises Artemis Intelligent Power Limited on its sale to Mitsubishi

Anderson Strathern’s leading corporate team has advised the majority shareholders of Artemis Intelligent Power Limited on its sale to Mitsubishi. Artemis is a leading technology innovator and was originally spun out of Edinburgh University. Among the many applications of its technology is a hydraulic transmission that increases reliability and reduces the weight of wind turbines, while improving compatibility with the requirements of the electrical grid.
The acquisition by Mitsubishi forms part of its proposed £100 million R&D investment in the Scottish offshore renewables industry. The conglomerate is to establish an engineering centre in Scotland for the research and development of offshore wind technology which will create up to 200 jobs at its Centre for Advanced Technology in Edinburgh.
The First Minister Alex Salmond said that the transaction "demonstrates how Scotland’s renewable revolution is gathering pace and we have the quality infrastructure and skilled workforce to deliver success in this rapidly-growing industry.”
Win Rampen, Managing Director of Artemis said:
“This marks a huge step forward for the development of our game-changing technology. Drawing on the breadth and depth of Mitsubishi’s expertise and skills, Artemis look forward to accelerating our R&D work with a view to our technology being used in turbines in UK and European waters by 2015.”
Akio Fukui, chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe said:
”The turbine technology being developed by Artemis would help make Scotland a key player in the offshore wind supply chain."
Anderson Strathern has been highly commended in the FT Innovative Lawyers Report 2010 in the category for 'Innovation in Climate Change and Sustainability'.
