- Advising the University of Edinburgh on all their employment law requirements. With over 8,000 employees, the University is one of the biggest employers in Scotland.
- Advised Glenmorangie Plc in relation to all the human resources issues relating to the repositioning of the Glenmorangie business from being a bulk whisky producer to a niche malt supplier to the luxury market. This involved management of collective consultation, downsizing and relocation from an old production warehousing facility to a new building. Also included development of a consultation/redundancy strategy in conjunction with PR and other professionals working with local HR and French Head office staff.
- Advised East Lothian Council in relation to the introduction of a new pay and grading model and the imposition of new terms and conditions including collective consultation and negotiation issues, industrial relations issues and the defence of multiple equal pay claims.
- Advised Edinburgh University on the employment law aspects of the University’s merger with the Roslin Institute. This involved advice on: the TUPE consultations; managing a two-stage transfer process in order to have the Principal Investigators transferred to the University ahead of the RAE Census deadline; and dealing with the post-merger union recognition and employment terms harmonisation issues.
- Assisted Edinburgh University to defend claims brought by a former academic for race and religious belief discrimination because the academic failed security vetting as a result of postings on Facebook and was, as a result, unable to take up his offer of employment at one of the University’s research facilities. This involved pleading a frustration defence to the ET.
