Corporate Responsibility

Corporate Responsibility (CR) underpins our philosophy, our strategy and how we implement our business operations across the business.

Our Chairman, Robert Carr, is the 2009 Prince's Ambassador for Corporate Social Responsibility in Scotland. Robert was given the honour at the 2009 Scottish Business in the Community awards.

Below are some examples of how we implement Corporate Responsibility across our firm.

In the workplace:

  • We support and adhere to the high standards set by the Law Society of Scotland.
  • We are strong supporters of the Investors in People (IIP) standard and were recently accredited with Silver status - placing us in the top 1% of UK IIP accredited firms.
  • We are an equal opportunities employer.
  • We promote good working practices.
  • We have developed an Integrated Management System to monitor and improve our methods to reduce risk and have achieved certification under the standards OHSAS 18001:2007 in respect of Occupational Health & Safety and ISO 9001:2000 in respect of Quality.

In the marketplace:

  • We promote our brand as a full service firm as we believe this offers our clients the real benefits of being able to access experts over a wide range of law.
  • Our reputation as "formidable but friendly" reinforces our ability to put cutting edge technical skills at the disposal of our clients while remaining approachable and able to communicate with our clients clearly and in plain English.
  • We seek to develop strong relationships with our clients to work with them as their interests and circumstances change and grow over the years.
  • We keep pace with technical change and through innovation continue to improve service delivery and value for money.

In the community:

  • We promote socially responsible policies to encourage all our people to make the most of their potential.
  • We participate in the development of the legal profession in Scotland.
  • We encourage and support staff to participate in charitable activities involving work with under privileged local communities or relating to the environment.
  • We support all our people in their contribution to the community through pro bono work.
  • We make an annual charitable donation instead of sending Christmas cards.

In the environment:

  • We manage our impact on the environment through good supply management and environmentally conscious internal practices, and our methods are certified as meeting the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental standard.
  • We provide our services in a way that is efficient and cost effective to our clients.
  • We reduce waste and consumption of fossil fuels within our premises.
  • We have worked in conjunction with the Carbon Energy Trust to identify ways to reduce our energy use.
